It really is completely absurd that this hasn't been solved yet. Almost makes you think it is on purpose.
Why the hell doesn't Windows implement permissions like iOS already? They seemed to be moving in the right direction last year, with the announcement of Win32 App Isolation, and then nothing happened.
- pram 3y agoI mean when it was introduced in MacOS Catalina literally everyone was griping about the popups and menus and how "locked down" everything is. Microsoft probably doesn't want another Vista situation, and who can blame them lol
- mikewarot 3y agoThe Win32 API assumes ambient authority, you really can't add proper capabilities on top if it, it has to be replaced completely. Also, the whole Vista UAC thing was permission flags, not proper capability based security. STRONG AGREE with the suspicion that this hasn't been solved, on purpose.
- 01HNNWZ0MV43FF 3y agoIt's a huge API break. e.g. Ubuntu tried to do the right thing by sandboxing Chromium with Snap and it broke some of my stuff.
