When AI will invent Fast inverse square root algorithms (truly invents, before it happens IRL) Carmack will have to worry. Till then it is super efficient and useful search on steroids.
But sure it is a source of value as it cuts down on wasting one's time for unproductive parts.

- lupire 3y agoThat's pretty easy to invent using AI. Finding short pieces of code to approximate known outputs and deployed problem. That is ASIC optimization, for example.
- FpUser 3y agoCan't argue with an expert but I've tried to grill ChatGPT on couple of unexplored science / coding related problems problems that I've encountered during course of my work in my other live in USSR where I used to be a scientist and the result was of zero use. No new inventions.
