It is highly unlikely, that we are the first ever species to create Virtual reality. And if we are not, then it is a lot more likely, that we are already living in a simulation :D

- beardyw 3y agoDoes it make allowance for the utter pointlessness of the exercise? This idea has been around since at least the 17th Century in one form or another ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Berkeley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Berkeley ). Now we have computers which we imagine might be able to create a simulation. It is an interesting thought experiment but nothing more. By the way, what's this "we" thing. If you are in a simulation, there is no need for anyone else to "exist" except when you can see them. You are unique and alone.
- BillyTheMage 3y ago> here is no need for anyone else to "exist" Speaking of resource optimization, I notice stuff all the time that makes me think "if this were a simulation, that's how I would have programmed it". For instance, the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon [1] seems useful. Don't spawn a word until it's needed. Once you've spawned it you might as well use it a good bit while the resources are loaded. - [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_illusion
