Former Apollo for Reddit user and current but seldom old.reddit user here. My overall engagement at Reddit has dropped significantly since Apollo stopped. The bot traffic / posts are way up.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t a revolt just before the IPO, lots of Redditors are still unhappy about the actions.
- ametrau 3y agoSame here. Apollo was so good. Absolutely nailed the UI. Do Reddit moderators do it for free?
- manishsharan 3y agoI really would want to know why anyone would want to be a Reddit moderator tirelessly fighting bots, content farms and assorted nutjobs for content that they do not own and a platform that only profits from their work without sharing anything with them. Are they all saints? Karma farmers ? PR folks playing the long game?
- EA-3167 3y agoIn my experience it depends on the sub, the size of the sub, and tightness of the focus on a single topic. Smaller hobbyist subs are often run by the truly passionate, giant default subs are usually run by ideologues and the power-hungry. In between is a mix of different motivations, ranging from "I want to be in charge of this propaganda" to "I think I can do a better job." A lot of reddit mods also seem to be disabled in some way, and basically have the time to be online 24/7 when not literally asleep. That creates a certain mindset and lack of connection to what the real world offline is actually like, and sometimes people get REALLY weird with that.
