  The worst thing is when parents force themselves upon their children. It puts so much stress on the child and causes stress like none other. Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" is filled with a lot of corny ideas by an author that is fantasizing about himself being a prophet, in my opinion, but what he has to say about children is excellent. "You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth."
