What about people who don't trust sending their code to a 3rd party for processing? (edit: I didn't downvote you, but I do think your claim is over-broad)

- biot 3y agoI suspect a lot of people overestimate how special their code is. Also, if your code exists in a private repo on GitHub, then you're already trusting the same third party when using GitHub Copilot.
- dns_snek 3y agoThis isn't just about IP. In the not so distant future we'll find out about 3 letter agencies using companies like OpenAI to deploy corporate backdoors with ease.
- ric2b 3y agoI think those people overestimate how useful it is to get a bunch of random code snippets from some company, that may or may not even reach production unchanged.
- dns_snek 3y agoI think you're underestimating the power such third parties are going to have in the future. There's a 100% likelihood that OpenAI and other LLMs providers are going to cooperate with intelligence agencies looking to deploy their backdoors to businesses across the world. It's the perfect supply chain attack vector with complete deniability.
