I agree, but I think this is largely the fault of OS Vendors, who design deskop creation frameworks that are usually some combination of hard to use, not very stable, not powerful enough, ugly, or not cross-platform. I'm sympathetic to the argument that OS Vendors shouldn't be held responsible for their libraries being used outside their OS, but that's clearly what (most) developers want, so (in my opinion) it's a requirement for a popular library.
