Florida lawmakers pass ban on social media for kids under 16
- dudul 3y ago"But opponents say it blatantly violates the First Amendment and that it should left to parents, not the government, to monitor children’s social media use." [...]Democratic state Sen. Jason Pizzo sarcastically said lawmakers have other options if they want to parent other people’s children. “Let’s have a bill that encourages engaging with your children, cooking dinner, sitting at a table together, making eye contact, calling grandma to see if she’s OK once in a while.” he said." Wouldn't you apply this stupid argument to gambling, drinking alcohol, watching adult content, etc?
- fuzzfactor 3y agoI grew up in that retirement community and there's always been an expectation that people should "just know" it's not an ideal environment to raise youngsters. Traditionally you're supposed to be over 65 years old and already have money before you even set foot. I guess that's not obvious enough this far into the 21st century, so whether it stands or not this really sends a message when there is any momentum at all to basically criminalize being a young teenager.
