I often say HN is a safe space for heinous opinions, where you can't strongly push back on them without getting moderated or outright banned.
Sometimes it needs to be said.
- arp242 3y agoI've told people off on HN. I've even told people to shut the fuck up on several different occasions. But usually with a lot more context than just "you're a jerk". And as much as I agree with that assessment (I've seen this person consistently be a jerk on various different threads), I feel that really doesn't really have enough substance to it, so I flagged it. It's also too much of a personal attack rather than an attack of the action (that is: "you're a jerk" vs. "that's a jerk thing to say").
