Arms exports to Israel must stop immediately: UN experts
- hersko 3y ago[flagged]
- birdofhermes 3y agoHappily, you don’t have to trust what some UN experts (listed at the bottom) are saying about Israel in this article; IDF’s own casualty numbers are the only evidence needed for the thrust of this article to be true.
- tguvot 3y agoisn't it's obvious ? because they are un and those are experts who saying it /s

- bluefishinit 3y agoThe UN literally created Israel.
- ihsw 3y agoThe implication that the Palestinian cause must balance the State of Israel's governance is insulting and provocative, and sadly is exemplifies UN policy.
- runarberg 3y agoThe UN has from its founding been anti-colonial. So much so that one of its six principal (or founding) organs was the Trusteeship Council with the sole aim of granting independence to nations that found them selves colonized after World War 2. Now Palestine didn’t explicitly fall under the Trusteeship, but that is only because Israel declared independence in 1948. Non other then the US (under Truman) actually proposed that Palestine became a Trustee nation under the UN. The UN has largely been successful in its decolonization efforts (demonstrably for the better). I don’t think we give it enough credit for that. So, yes. This does indeed exemplify UN policy. And it is a good policy, which has been proven improve the lives of millions, if not billions, in more ways then we can count.
- tguvot 3y agowell, israel is a great example of decolonization of colonized territory. mission accomplished.
- runarberg 3y agoThe Trusteeship Council was indeed disbanded in 1994 when they considered their mission finished, following the independence of Palau. So, yes, you can say mission accomplished. However Palestine was never a Trust territory so it was always outside of that specific mission. However it still falls within UN’s greater mission of general decolonization. This is evidenced by one of its other Principal organs—the General Assembly—voting to start a trial at the ICJ (yet another one of its 6 Principle Organs) to see if Israel’s conduct in the occupied territories (including the West Bank and East Jerusalem) constitutes an illegal activity within international law. So, no, UN’s mission to decolonize Palestine is still very much ongoing. And it seems like the vast majority of member nations are not happy with the current state of affairs, and do indeed want greater efforts to be taken to further decolonization of Palestine.

- birdofhermes 3y ago> The experts noted that arms transfers to Hamas and other armed groups are also prohibited by international law, given their grave violations of international humanitarian law on 7 October 2023, including hostage-taking and subsequent indiscriminate rocket fire.
- tguvot 3y agoand how un experts suggest to deal with this issue ?
- ignoramous 3y agoConcessions, reparations, dialog. More humanly than it currently is. From both sides.
- ericfrazier 3y agoAnd what of the Israeli children who die from rockets during your little talks?

- hammon 3y agoI was not raised in the marvellous West to be a supporter of bombing and killing childrens in Gaza, but now it seems the international laws are only to be respected if USA and friends are not breaking them. Disgusting. Tell me again we are the champions of democracy...

- krapp 3y agoTake a look at any recent vote in the UN, or the opinions of the ICJ. The majority of powers in the western world share the gp's view. The US is literally the only country in the free world, other than Israel, that disagrees.
- phmqk76 3y agoAnd yet they can’t/won’t do shit about it. Hence “people in power” not “third-rate states that take virtue-signaling votes but refuse to lift a finger”.
- krapp 3y agoThe pride you seem to take in America's capacity to threaten the world with its military hegemony and support genocide unopposed is a weird look. I don't know why you want that look, but I'll let you have it.
- phmqk76 3y agoI’m pretty sure Europe has done a real bang-up job not only supporting genocide but perpetrating it on a massive scale in the modern era. The moral stain of these countries, especially as it relates to Jews, comes into sharp relief when they fund Hamas and its evil, supporting school curricula that teaches kids to hate and murder Jews, treats Israel is an illegitimate state from it’s inception, and uses histrionic language that itself proved the need for a Jewish state.

- enterprise_cog 3y agoIsrael gets those condemnations because they are committing genocide. If you do horrible things then you should expect to be condemned. That you instead assume the UN is wrong and it’s Israel being unfairly treated, despite the tens of thousands of murdered Palestinians, shows your clear bias. Oh, and the UN did condemn the killing of Israeli civilians on the 7th.
- jfengel 3y agoIf you think that Israel is uniquely genocidal, more than all of the rest of the world combined, that shows your bias.
