The Lost Art of Single-Tasking Devices
- _heimdall 3y agoI've been tempted for years now this buy a digital rangefinder for exactly this reason. The prices even for old Fuji range finders still run keep me from pulling the trigger, but I have always been a fan of single use tools that do the job extremely well rather then a multi tool that does a bunch of things okay.
- smnrg 3y agoTake a look at a Ricoh GR III or IIIx. Lighter than Fuji's most famous rangefinders, great APS-C sensor. In stock, and cheaper. There's a slight chance today they will announce its successor.
- _heimdall 3y agoI actually had the GR II a couple years ago and sold it when I moved to a micro four thirds kit and a few prime lenses. Only thing I missed with the GR was an optical view finder (also not on the micro four thirds I replaced it with). I had a Sony A700 about a decade ago and still miss that view finder. The thing was really heavy with a decent lens attached but I loved shooting with it.
- smnrg 3y agoNice! I keep a tiny GM1 around just to use a couple nice m43 lenses that I can't depart with! :)
- mouse_ 3y agoI recently bought an iPod Nano and an old school Sony CD Mavica camera. While outdated, my experience with both has been so much better than the equivalent on my phone. This article speaks to me.
