It doesn't sparkle joy to them anymore. I wish I was joking, but reducing the amount of stuff that is owned/managed for the sake of it is a common philosophy. Another way to put it: they're focusing. We think it would have been extremely low effort to keep a static site running, they probably thought not having to think about it at all was worth the loss.
