Each company is essentially getting 5-minutes of free & focused advertising to a massive, premium audience.
Not to mention the potential to have incredible investors jump on board & exposure to thousands of other potential investors.
Seems like a good deal.
- bprater 14y agoThey often do short clips of previous "contestants". Quite often, their business has grown successfully, even without an investment because of the exposure they gained on the show. I'd say that if you get on the show, present well and have a decent business model -- you're going to gain a ton of interest after the show airs.

- larrys 14y agoI know one of those people that was on the show and re-featured and had done quite well as a result of the publicity. As a baseline I know how they were doing before being on air. The fact is if you appear on national tv and don't do well your idea sucks. So you have tremendous upside and very little downside.
- untog 14y agoI think what he means is that not every pitch airs.
- zootar 14y agoThey do show some businesses that failed. In these cases, the implication is that the sharks' decision not to invest is vindicated.
- frankdenbow 14y agoExample? I've watched most episodes and don't remember ever seeing this.
- huhtenberg 14y ago> Seems like a good deal. Hardly. They have no control over how their pitch is delivered to the audience.
- davidandgoliath 14y agoCertainly -- but if someone owns a stake in your entity (however small) it's in their best interest to at least put things in a good light.
- MichaelApproved 14y agoNo, it's in their best interest to make the show entertaining. Sometimes that means they make you look silly so you're the comic relief. They have the advantage of editing the show after the pitch so they can decide how valuable you are to them. They decide what they value more: equity in your company or making you look silly for the sake of the show.
