That title sounds quite botched? From the article, it sounds like it's illegal for governments to require backdoors to encryption, not for people to merely have them. Otherwise that would be very strange...
- pfannkuchen 3y agoWould that be strange? Seems like any back door may mislead end users in a serious and potentially harmful way.
- dataflow 3y agoYes? For one thing it would mean you couldn't make a backdoorable cipher for your own personal use!
- herbst 3y agoThe law is specifically for internet services. I have to assume it only applies once you publish your encryption as anything else than a proof of concept.
- pfannkuchen 3y agoNot necessarily! There is a lot of daylight between “applies only to government” and “applies to everyone at all times”. I assumed the point under discussion was “applies to commercial products and not just governments”.
