The high cost of promoting homeownership
- BobbyTables2 3y agoIn the US, the Trump tax changes pretty much killed the federal tax deduction for interest/taxes due to the greater standard deduction. (unless you have a million dollar house and/or high interest rate). However, even if one sells their house after a decade for exactly the purchase price, they come out way ahead. Maintenance, property tax, interest, and insurance are still much cheaper than renting! If they weren’t, why would anyone bother being a landlord? Landlords want to make money, not break even!! And with modest appreciation, it becomes an even better deal.
