As a child of the 80s, I have no memory of this. Perhaps one needed to be more a young adult in the 80s and watched more movies to really remember this.

  Ditto. All I remember is if my copy of Return of the Jedi went squiggly, I adjusted the tracking until it wasn’t.

  As an adult in the 80s, I remember them. I thought they went away after a few years. I'm surprised that some persisted tot he mid- ot late-90s.
