Did he ever say what persuaded him to allow this? A sense of duty or something else? I’m struggling to envision any force compelling enough to make me agree to have my teeth knocked out and my jaw broken. Love of country sure as hell wouldn’t be on the list.
- hyperman1 3y agoChoose between the enemy trying to kill you, or your friends kicking your teeth out. It might have been the lesser of 2 evils.
- swozey 3y agoIt absoultely wasn't #1, he was drafted not patriotic. I think he was just broke and took advantage of a 17yo kid and probably offered him a few grand to have 50 years of VA doc appointments that never help him out. IIRC they literally broke out every tooth/re-aligned jaw and then wired everything together.
