CHIPS subsidies is a hedge against China taking over Taiwan. US is building onshore capacity to be able to renege on defense promises given to Taiwan at minimum cost. I would be very worried if I was in Taiwan. Im already worried as it is living in Europe and learning article 5 might just be a mere suggestion to US.
