The Lidar is really only a convenient system for the prototype - production units would rely mostly on imaging and limited range radar for parking / collision.

The Lidar is really only a convenient system for the prototype - production units would rely mostly on imaging and limited range radar for parking / collision. Having said that - there is no real difficulty in making Lidar very cheap if you wanted to - it's all solid state
