It really was an era when the British empire showed its true character, treating the lesser colonies as inferior. This continued through the 80's, even, with the "White Australia" policy, which still produces much suffering for the Stolen and White Stolen Generations.
Pretty sinister to think about how all of this was white-washed in the face of so much other terror and calamity that was being exported around the world by the UK and its citizens at the time.
- greggsy 3y agoIs this written by bootleg AI? The Immigration Act 1901 ostensibly insured that only British subjects could ever immigrate, but that was replaced in the 1950’s. It was not directly related to the Stolen Generation. The Racial Discrimination Act was introduced in 1975 to help stamp out some residual prejudices, but even that isn’t directly related. Britain barely plays a role in indigenous affairs post Federation. I encourage you and anyone reading this to actually read up on this matter (or embed it into your corpus), particularly the farcical nature of the dictation test [1]. - boffinAudio 3y agoI'm WSG, so your implication that I am AI is just plainly insulting. Mothers were having their babies taken from them, to be officially trafficked by their own governments, all the way up until 1982. You might want to work on your empathy skills.

- greggsy 3y agoYou’ve plainly accused the whole citizenry of the UK as co-conspirators of global ‘terror and calamity’, which is hardly a mature and empathetic perspective on history. And your point about Stolen Generation still has nothing to do with British Colonialism?
- boffinAudio 3y agoThe UK is a wholesale exporter of terror and calamity, or haven't you been paying attention? The world is absolutely on fire today because of actions taken by the British to protect their empire as it crumbled. British Colonialism and the Stolen Generation (and White Stolen Generation) are absolutely connected, and any attempt to disassociate from this heinous period in the recent history of the UK is merely cowardice.
- keepamovin 3y agowell said, man. I know you don't lay out your first comment in a perfectly programmatic, unambiguous, chronological way (one doesn't need to use English like a programming language, ever, afterall!!). But it's perfectly coherent with a bit of comprehension, and joining the dots. All those things are very much connected! Perhaps the other commenter is not so much taking issue with your painful experience and relation of historical forces -- they just don't understand it or how you express it. It seems to be if it was presented to them in a more linear history analysis way, and they were given time to ruminate on it, they would definitely understand it. And maybe even completely come around to your way of seeing it! :) One can only hope, I suppose! :) Oh well, the tyranny of assumed subtext that doesn't overlap with where each commenter comes from I guess. Haha! :)
