Stop Closing Your iPhone's Background Apps
- phs318u 3y agoThe problem with articles like this is that it will be true until it’s not. At some point I believe it’s inevitable that advances in battery tech will mean background running apps will become a thing and at that point the article will be the one selling myths. Also, has anyone ever quantified the extra power impost of closing and reopening an app vs just leaving it alone?
- Arnt 3y agoWhen an app starts up, it uses the CPU intensively for a second or so. Some apps need more. That is the cost of closing/reopening. The CPU uses real power when it runs at full speed. The cost scales with the number of reopenings, though, which may be very low. BTW, looking at the Android history makes me doubt that advances in battery will lead to background apps. Lead to lighter devices, yes, longer battery lifetime, yes, but background apps?
- phs318u 3y agoIf background apps are automatically significantly throttled in certain ways maybe?
- giuliomagnifico 3y agoThere’s still someone who do it?! I thought this myth was debunked years ago bb
- bemusedthrow75 3y agoExcept if you happen to have used multiple camera apps. Closing those deliberately can avoid some unintentional behaviours, particularly if one of the apps is specifically selecting a single camera and the other is the built in camera app. I suspect the same applies for certain connected devices.
- fsflover 3y agoExcept if you have different permissions for an app while it's running and in the background.
