I just pulled out my copy of Oderberg (disclaimer: I've only read about half of it, and it's the first half that doesn't discuss biology much), and can't find any mention of Maritain in the index, so it must be Gilson, which I don't have a copy of. In any case, what Maritain says is astonishing, and I fear you've just given me another reason to be suspicious of him :-). Is he claiming that the difference between (say) a shark and a dog is merely a question of accidents?
