During Engineering Manager interview setup with Google, you are given a choice between writing code (problem solving) or reviewing code. Latter is not any better, as you might be given only 10-15 lines of code to review. You end up guessing and filling-in a lot of missed code, which I think is worse than writing code where you have complete control.
