Ask HN: Why would a for-profit company choose the Org domain?
Example: Brilliant.org, a respected tech product with a good mission.
Why risk the reputational damage of misleading people by presenting your business as a non-profit?
- dtagames 3y agoThere's no rule associating .org with nonprofits, even though it's a common perception. Some people register a .org because the .com isn't available. Others make sure they have many top-level versions of their organization name registered to prevent others from doing so.
- DecentRecruiter 3y agoRight - it's the common perception part that bothers me. Your thoughts?
- Brajeshwar 3y agoActually, .net and .org used to be domain protectors for your .com!
