Why is this surprising? Big Pharma is not good at innovation so they buy and partner with companies that have done the hard R&D and they focus on commercialization, distribution and manufacturing. It doesn’t mean that pharma R&D is not being done, it’s just that pharma companies are not paying for R&D they are paying up for commercializable assets.
