So… we aren’t being spied on because the guy complaining about the spying is right wing? Not trying to be obtuse here, but what is the argument?

The argument is that he's not impartial.

Such wide covert mass surveillance activity from the 90's was unable to catch glimpse of 9/11 before the fact. Doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure if it was from the wide-scale surveillance, but there were glimpses caught of a terror attacking using airliners before 9/11. Just glimpses unfortunately, that weren't acted on. "Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US was the title of the President's Daily Brief prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency and given to U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday, August 6, 2001. The brief warned, 36 days before the September 11 attacks, of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, including "patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for a hijacking" of U.S. aircraft."[0] [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_Ladin_Determined_To_Strike_in_US https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_Ladin_Determined_To_Strike... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_intelligence_before_the_attacks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_intelligence_befo...

It was, and did. The FBI and CIA both knew pieces of the 9/11 plot before it was executed. That's not conspiracy, it's plain fact. Intelligence agencies have a very hard time working together. The domestic unit tasked with tracking Al Qaeda did not know agents were on American soil, when the CIA and NSA (foreign intelligence) did. The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright is a great book about this, and the TV show by the same name (a Hulu original) is also fantastic and largely accurate to the true story. Rare gem for Hulu.

Whatever makes you think it wasn't caught and ignored out of very human hubris and imperfection?
