The issue as I understand it is guest accounts no longer being supported by Twitter, so it now requires real accounts which are said to not be feasible for most public instances. Not sure if Poast.org has a smaller number of users or how they're handling it. Side note but it was the original maintainer (zedeus) a few weeks back who declared 'Nitter is dead' in a Github issue.
