With the current infrastructure and technologies (batteries & engines), it doesn't make sense to rely upon either technology entirely. Most drivers would see the best performance, ecological, and financial benefits by driving a hybrid vehicle, whether in series or parallel -hybrid-drive configuration. Full EVs should really only be purchased for performance or golf cart reasons... environmentally friendly they are not.
