There is a thread in there about how people in leadership positions (particularly leader of CERN) are no longer physicists because they switch to doing politics. I don't know why but physics seems to be obsessed with identifying whether a person is truly a physicist or not. It is pervasive in every corner of the physics world I've been to. It is especially present in those in junior positions. Perhaps it is part of the process of joining the research community. But I wonder what benefit this offers those who do it?
- wenebego 3y agoIts the same idea in other industries. You have technical people and you have management. Hopefully there is some overlap. It helps you to figure out how "high level" you need to talk to them
- CRConrad 3y agoI suspect that has more to do with "people in leadership positions" than with physics. Or, for that matter, car sales, fast food, or software development... Dunno which is chicken and which is egg, but: Positions like that attract a certain kind of people to begin with, and positions like that shape people into politicians. In all fields.
