this is almost on the same level as someone saying he never heard of subversion
- Beijinger 3y agoNot sure why. But feel free to recommend a better tool, since I will need something like this soon. How about this? https://www.openproject.org/ https://www.openproject.org/
- nix0n 3y agoAs a developer, OpenProject is fine. Search is pretty good, so I assume the reporting is okay, but I've never tried it. We used to get occasional slowdowns, but someone threw more HW at it, and speed is good now. I've never used Jira, so I can't compare directly.
- bscphil 3y agoPeople working on open source "hackery" stuff are probably much more likely to be familiar with Github / Gitlab issues, or Bugzilla. I can only think of one open source project that uses Jira; it's my only encounter with the program, and it's without question the single worst experience I've ever had reporting a bug to a project from a technical point of view. I'm not so sure about the subversion comparison. Maybe it's out of date - someone who got started programming in the last ~10 years has probably only ever used Git, whereas plenty of organizations use Jira, as far as I know.
- _dain_ 3y agoNot every tech-interested person has been in that kind of corporate SWE workplace. There are students, hobbyists, scientists, artists etc here. It's a big world out there!
