I think you are reading too far into that comment. It's probably about them using Android as a base OS. I doubt they have any plan to make their proprietary parts available to other manufacturers and honestly I don't know if it would make much sense because everything is very optimized for each specific headsets. They have different sensors, camera positions and other technical capabilities, it's very different than mobile phones.
- jameslk 3y agoMaybe. Although from a strategic standpoint, it seems to make more sense to be the next Windows or Android for this type of platform to reduce the surface area they need to compete on for both OS and hardware, which Apple does masterfully. If they were to help standardize the headset hardware requirements and necessary configurations for their OS, I could see it happening.
