Why did you not want to use AI?
There's a dozen interesting reasons I can think of, mostly around
feelings of dehumanisation, reification, de-skilling and so on. Or
that you believe what you are being asked to do is illegal.
Whenever you find you have an ethical objection to a workplace
technology then it's important to be able to articulate that, and to
do so in writing leaving a permanent legible record of your
objections. Don't just say "No."
That gives a company a chance to reflect. Is there some other way you
can achieve your objectives? - AI is a tool not an end. Then you can
have that all important conversation. If there is no meeting of minds
than it's better for everyone if you quit citing ethical objections.
When I see a resume with a reason for leaving sited as "ethical
conflict" I am _very_ interested in that candidate, because, speaking
frankly I think ethics is a skill, and probably one of the very
valuable human skills going forward in an "AI age".
Quitting and giving an articulate, principled well reasoned account of
why is to your credit.
Stubbornly refusing until your bewildered manager's hand is forced is
not.
- pavel_lishin 3y agoDid you read the article, or just the title on the HN link?
- nonrandomstring 3y ago"Please don't comment on whether someone read an article. "Did you even read the article? It mentions that" can be shortened to "The article mentions that". Tell me please, what you thought the article said?
- pavel_lishin 3y agoI'm so very tempted to use ChatGPT or something like it to generate a summary of the article.
- nonrandomstring 3y agoDo it. Let's use this fancy "AI" for something useful, like progressing a discussion of intellectual curiosity between two people who cannot read :) I'm totally up for that. But it's a bit odd that you can't just give me the one line skinny. Oh no... I'm not going to fall into the trap of asking whether you've read TFA btw :) FWIW. I haven't! (site blocks me)
