As the sibling comment suggests, I would also recommended checking if it's really the cable and not the TV (or projector) that is the issue.

  It's probably related to the cable, but it's still not clear why apple silicon macbooks consistently are the only computers that have problems with it (and not if using a USB-C dongle...).

    Because Apple does not care about non-Apple hardware.

      this much is clear. It's funny nowadays that me with the Linux Thinkpad is more likely to be able to connect to projectors than all the Mac users... certainly was not the case 15 years ago.
