The mass corporate surveillance has long been believed by many (and derided by others) as a tool of political repression. I think legal solutions discussed in the OP are absolutely necessary, but what are the technical solutions? It's been a long time since I've seen it explored. If the data doesn't exist, it can't be abused. Can cell phone service be provided without tracking location? And if so, combining a legal and technical solution, such technology could be required.
