China's Shipyards Are Ready for a Protracted War. America's Aren't

- more_corn 3y agoDon’t worry. We’ll never get to constructing the ships because we’ll be blocked on the chips. When there was a fire on the TSMC line, heavy industrial manufacturing came to a standstill. Where’s TSMC again? Taiwan. Humm. What’s the first place China said they plan to attack in the coming years? Taiwan. We won’t be able to make so much as a usb charger let alone a whole battleship. Now granted, tsmc is trying to construct a plant on us soil. But it seems some moronic union yahoos are slow rolling it. Someone should pull those idiots aside and have a quiet “national security” conversation with them.
- Arnt 3y agoYou can be more specific than that. "Slow rolling" is vague, it just doesn't say much. The unions wanted to use American workers instead of foreigners, so you can go into detail about why American workers are bad for national security.
- Two4 3y agoI imagine having critical-industry capacity may take a front seat, rather than labour concerns - those can be sorted out later when the need to be able to scale to wartime production levels is less dire
- kelipso 3y agoIf the unions want to use incompetent American workers then the plant will never get built, and there goes all your security concerns.
