Questions on the application form for a DX engineer at Vercel
- aaronrobinson 3y agoSeems pretty reasonable. You can opt not to say.
- JohnFen 3y agoWhy does it seem reasonable? Whatever the answer to that question, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the job. Just asking it is incredibly sus.
- aaronrobinson 3y agoI expect they’re asking it to assess how effective their reach is to people of all flavours. But if you don’t think that’s a relevant thing to ask then they give you the option not to reply. That’s sounds reasonable to me.
- drewbitt 3y agoI'm no expert on this, but seems like this information can be used for or against candidates. There's a reason applications don't ask your age or religion - these are protected categories. Collecting it at all just opens you up to use of it in hiring discrimination. Sexual orientation has been protected against employment discrimination since at least 2020 in the US. Typically this is benign and they collect it just cuz', but that's not a clever idea.
