Interestingly, the latest and greatest version (desktop app via Office365) of Microsoft Word on Mac appears to know what it is but refuses to open it. If you drag the file onto Word, it launches a dialogue box telling you "proposal uses a file type that is blocked from opening in this version" along with a link to the supporting page on the Microsoft website[1].
