Isn't "internet access" a humanitarian good, of universal application, that should be available to anyone regardless of their beliefs, or the system of governance they're currently suffering?
Should Starkink be available only to the Ukrainians? or to neither side in this conflict?
Are the phone providers getting flak for serving russians here? Is this just another chance to have a "Musk is Bad" two minute hate?
- nullindividual 3y agoMusk is actively brown-nosing Putin, an enemy of the US. He should be thrown in prison never to come out. Musk is preventing Ukranian armed forces from using Starlink. The guy is absolute scum of the earth.
- inemesitaffia 3y agoHow exactly does your second paragraph work
- jprd 3y agoI _totally_ agree with your first comment about it being a humanitarian good, and damn near a right! That said, heck no Starlink shouldn't be available to the Russian military. They are engaged in a war of unprovoked aggression and have drawn the conflict as a Russian vs. "The West" existential fight (lol). Fine. Then you get no access to the technology, services or benefits that "The West" generates. Elon Musk didn't generate his wealth through participation in the Russian Oligarchy. "Musk is Bad" is a different conversation, and "Bad" is too damn simple to explain his impulsive recklessness AND the technical inspiration he has also reignited for a huge swath of techies. If this was a service that was being used by Russian civilians to stay informed, and retain access to information without fear of being jailed/prosecuted - then you have an argument. This isn't that, it is leveraging Western technology to attack a Western ally. Would you argue for AWS to allow all of its regions to participate in an attack on US infrastructure, knowing it was orchestrated by a foreign adversary to the United States? Would Russia let a now-nationalized Yandex to allow the same against their own national infrastructure? Would Alibaba?
- lm28469 3y agoA right? Like the right to live in peace, the right to liberty and security, &c.? We should also drop blankets and food to Russians right? You wouldn't want them to die of hypothermia or malnutrition It's a fucking war, what do you expect?
