That's not how it work. Evolution only selects for hereditary, biological factors, and even then, it's not a guarantee. "Stupid people" won't "die out" for the same reason.
- elliotec 3y agoHereditary, biological factors only get selected via reproduction, so of course that’s how it works. “Stupid people” won’t “die out” as long as “they” keep having kids. Simple as that.
- npteljes 3y agoYes, in retrospect suicidal people would have been a better, even if inappropriate, example.
- therealdrag0 3y agoMany people have suicide after having kids, making evolution indifferent to that flavor.
- leoedin 3y agoIs the desire to have kids (as opposed to just sex) genetic? Given that pretty much everything about our personalities seems to be genetic to some extent, it seems pretty likely.
- npteljes 3y agoI think you can work this out backwards: if it was genetic, to a significant degree, then we wouldn't see it around. I believe that the largest predictor for the number of kids is socioeconomic circumstance, and culture.
- Sankozi 3y agoDo you really think that situation when one decides "it's too hard to have kids" never has hereditary, biological causes (including indirect)? I think in vast majority of such situations hereditary factors are involved. It is really hard for me to imagine such situation that is completely independent from such factors.
- npteljes 3y agoIt might have some influence, but not to the extent where, quoting OP, >>The "it's too hard to have kids" crew is selecting against themselves<<.
- trashtester 3y agoStupidity may actually be a factor that leads people to have more kids, so we may see more of it in the future :) > Evolution only selects for hereditary, biological factors, That's true. And we really don't know what the full list of such factors are hidden in our genes. Maybe many, maybe just a few. What's for sure, though, IF there are enough genes somewhere in the gene pool that lead people (women in particular) to want to have kids at an elevated rate, those are massively selected for right now.
