Praying to the God of Valuation (2022)
- GianFabien 3y agoI would like to add two points: 1. With very low (zero) interest rates, investors are scrambling to find anything that offers non-negative real yield. So those conditions increased the amount of funds begging to be invested. 2. With 20+ years of startups, all the low hanging fruit has been picked. Startups are having to target ever more complex problems and correspondingly smaller addressable markets.
- skeeter2020 3y agoAre you talking historically? Interest rates are not low, in a 20-yr time frame. In terms of low-hanging fruit, I tend to disagree. A friend and I were just talking about how the original disrupters of the Internet have now built the next generation of complex, creaking systems - themselves ready for disruption. I think some of the business models that have been successful are harder to pull off (ex: disintermediate, rent-taking). It's going to be interesting to watch your Ubers, Skip, Doordash, Stripes and OpenAIs try to use regulation, etc. to slow their demise.
- hgomersall 3y agoThere's loads of opportunity. In hindsight we'll look back at this time with envy at how many things hadn't been invented yet. It's like early in the industrial revolution when everything was up in the air.
