Burns, Oregon (Carl's home town) and Harney County do not appear on Hacker News very often, but what an amazing place it is. Recently, it's probably best known for the Bundy family and company taking over the wildlife refuge south of Burns. But it's well worth a visit for some of the natural attractions, the most prominent of which is Steens Mountain and the Alvord Desert just below it to the east.
