Imagine the uproar if the majority of the white-collar workforce suddenly has their livelihoods at risk, including many in the upper-levels. Possibly even some CEOs, if all a richer CEO needs to create a competing product is to pour money into a code generator and wait <6 months. When small groups are affected nothing happens, but we're talking a sizeable percent of the population in nearly every field, nearly everywhere. Also, does this AI run orders of magnitude faster and more efficiently than a human like GPT4? Can it precisely and effectively control robots that perform manual labor? Can it control adaptive military equipment? White-collar disruption, huge on its own, would pale in comparison to the impact of any of these.
