- matheusmoreira 3y agoTrump's case is different. The US has a reasonable election system. I don't believe there was fraud in american elections. Even so, I seriously doubt you would approve if US government officials acted like the brazilians did. How would you feel if supreme court judges started walking all over the constitution by unilaterally censoring Trump during his campaign? Then after he loses they go to some public event to proudly brag about how they defeated Trumpism? What if I told you among those judges was Biden's own lawyer? That these judges moved to more or less erase all the crimes of the Biden administration and now they're subjecting Trump to persecution? Surely such unabashed displays of corruption are not tolerated in the USA.
- DarknessFalls 3y agoTrump isn't just on trial for election tampering. We have proof from the recorded call between Trump and Georgia's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger that Trump exhorted and implored the latter to "find 11,000 votes". Not to mention by Trump's own admission, he incited an insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th. He has still faced no accountability for these actions. So yeah, it's worse than what Bolsonaro tried to pull and Bolsonaro was banned from running for re-election. Good for Brazil. They might keep their democracy longer than the U.S.
- matheusmoreira 3y agoI'll just take your word for it. Like I said, I don't object to the accusations levied against Trump. Truth is I'm not particularly knowledgeable about the Trump stuff. Keeping up with this circus right here is hard enough already. So I'll just refrain from commenting on that matter. This is not good for Brazil at all. And it's not because they got rid of Bolsonaro, it's because of the blatantly unconstitutional methods they used to do it. You seem to be under the impression Brazil is a democracy. It's in fact some sort of judicial dictatorship. In 2019 or so the supreme court more or less granted itself whatever powers it needed to do anything it wanted. And not a single one of these judges is elected by the brazilian people. Bolsonaro wasn't banned from office for election tampering or whatever. He was banned from office for wrongthink. The fucking judge said the voting machines are perfect and unquestionable. He questioned them. They literally hung him over the perfectly coherent criticism he levied against the machines. They could have chosen any of the incredibly stupid things he said or did over the years and they chose that. Obviously they're going to find literally any reason to incarcerate him, whatever sticks. It's only a matter of time.
