Nuclear pilot plant uses molten salt coolant instead of water for safer reactors

- PaulHoule 3y agoNote that this is unlike https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten-Salt_Reactor_Experiment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten-Salt_Reactor_Experiment in that the salt is just a coolant and the fuel is solid. The plant discussed in this paper looks like it uses pebble-bed TRISO fuel but there are many possible configurations such as https://www.moltexenergy.com/ https://www.moltexenergy.com/ which uses a molten salt coolant to cool stainless steel fuel elements that are packed with a (nonmoving) fuel salt.
