Sort of. We certainly seem to have adapted rather rapidly to an ever-increasing variety of hairstyles, clothes, tattoos, piercings and accessories. We'd probably all "shy away" from the average goth or punk rock kid if it was 1940. But who still scoffs at those extreme looks these days when they serve you coffee or stop you on the street for directions?
