I Built a Blockchain Based App / Game Without Code
- EthenMMDev 3y agoSince 2022 I’ve been chipping away at an idea to build an open world game that would be a mix between a trading card game (TCG) a tabletop game and a text based RPG. I was heavily inspired by text based RPGs from the 80s which placed a priority on immersive storytelling, player imagination, choice consequence and exploration. I decided to use bubble (a no code tool) to create the application because I made the decision early on that I wanted the game to use both Web2 and Web3 technologies. Bubble allowed me to build the application (mostly) without code using a plugin called Web3 & MetaMask. I’m also using ThirdWeb open source smart contracts to create the NFTs. My users (my first users signed up yesterday) can now sign using only their MetaMask / Ethereum details. This is my first Web3 project and I’m really happy with how it’s progressing. I still have a lot of work to do on it, but its come a long way. Likely, within the next 2-3 weeks, I’m going to implement the ability to concert player generated cards in NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. I already have the functionality built in, I just haven’t released it yet, because if the cards are NFTs, they could then be traded outside the game world. In itself this is fine, but I need to build a system to check if the current game player is the current card’s owner. Again, not particularly difficult to do, I just want a bit more player feedback before I incorporate this feature. You can try the game out for free, or watch the video tutorial I posted on the land page of the site. I just wanted to share this because it could be interesting for other people who are thinking about developing a Web3 app, and don’t want to (or don’t know how to) code it from scratch.
- dtagames 3y agoAs a developer who works in this space in my day job, I could not in good conscience recommend you launch a real money/crypto project without good programmers on your team -- especially those experienced in security, web development, and working with APIs. The reason is that any crypto or real money app is likely to be the target of hacks and attacks. Even though a no-code/low-code system might allow you to create the app (and I do love your AI card idea), it won't allow you to check for yourself if it's secure or correct.
- EthenMMDev 3y agoSecurity of course is always an issue. Most people put their faith in third party services to help with the securing of their platforms to some degree. Bubble handles the security on the hosting side and have very rigorous security standards: https://bubble.io/security https://bubble.io/security. And MetaMask is handling login authentication. Of course, there is always a risk but these two platforms take security very seriously. Definitely something I'll have to keep my eye on in the future though. But really using MetaMask for payments is similar to using Stripe. I'm offloading the security of payments to this trusted third party. I've used both platforms for many years and many companies (even million dollar companies) run their businesses on bubble using no-code tech.
