Great question! I would guess - not this soon. The games made graphics cards commodities and therefore competition and innovation pushed their performance right up. Cryptocurrency wouldn’t have caused graphics card - like architectures to appear because they probably would go straight from CPU to Asic. I think eventually AI research would have caused chips to be invented for AI which may be like graphics cards or something else entirely.
