Judge rules casinos have no duty to stop compulsive gamblers from betting
- JoeAltmaier 3y agoNo legal duty anyway. But a moral one. I was buying ice cream at a Dairy Queen years ago, on a hot summer day. A lady pulled up in her rusty car, heaved herself out, must have weighed 300 pounds. Shuffled to the window, ordered a half-dozen shakes and sundaes. Got them, carried back to her car, and shoveled them in like it was a compulsive thing. Nobody said anything, we tried not to stare. But I really wish the store had refused her service. It was clearly a regular thing. Like watching a heroin addict shoot up, or something. Yeah, nobody is required by law to help. But somebody should.

- jfengel 3y agoNew Jersey casino law “pervasively regulates the responsibilities of casinos as they relate to compulsive gamblers, but is notably silent on whether casinos or online gambling platforms may induce people who present with compulsive gambling behavior to patronize their businesses,” Sounds like the law needs to be updated. But I imagine the casino owners have a lot of influence on the legislature, and it will be hard to fix this.
