If this is for anti-theft I don't see why Apple doesn't implement a better system. I'm always shocked to hear about iphones constantly getting stolen. Apple needs better ways to mark something stolen thus unsalable.

Once you report an iPhone as stolen, it cannot be registered again.

  On a US network maybe. Many electronics are shipped to distant nations.

    Without the associated account+password you can’t activate a stolen apple device, regardless of region.

    I meant activated with Apple. A lost/stolen phone is a brick unless it can be activated.
