True RESTful (HATEOAS) APIs are really powerful, but they are a major pain for any client to implement. GraphQL APIs are worse than HATEOAS, but the client tooling is amazing. GraphQL won.
I think the same thing will happen here. The distributed nature of the Fediverse is really powerful, but creating clients are a huge pain. The API is so complex.
In contrast to the Federvise API, the BlueSky API is easy to use which will allow more people to "play" with different clients and use cases.

- cma 3y agoSame people even, isn't Dorsey involved? And it is a public benefit company that sort of laughably hasn't disclosed its charter, like how OpenAI backed out of revealing the details of its corporate structure.
- steveklabnik 3y agoDorsey is on the board but does not hold any ownership in the company. He also deleted his account. Seems like he only cares about nostr.
- jimmydoe 3y agohe's on the board says everything. many including myself don't believe he'll give up his stake in neither Bluesky or Nostr. Nostr is full of crypto and "free speech" people. there will be too much controversies if he's seen active on both.
- steveklabnik 3y agoAgain, he doesn't have a stake. I agree Nostr is full of that, which is why I don't use it.
- Aspie96 3y agoWhat's a "free speech person"? Is it one that support effective access to the actual exercise of fundamental human rights?
- jimmydoe 3y ago> In contrast to the Federvise API, the BlueSky API is easy to use I coded with both, I don't feel they are that different.
